Rap or hip-hop music has come up in recent decades and created a diverse and extremely popular genre of music. How to the first rappers have paved the path for what rappers are today is a crazy transition.
Starting off back in the late 1900s, hip-hop arose in hood like areas and black communities in bigger USA cities. Its main intent was to uproot the wrong doings to these minority groups and to shed light on the racism in America. Artists like Eazy E and other members of NWA helped hip-hop get really popular and help get some money into these less fortunate communities. As times like the 90’s rolled around we got the golden era of hip-hop with people like Outkast and the beginning of one of the best rappers: Eminem. Although still pretty gang and good affiliated, it was beginning to shift.
aim the 2000s people like Eminem and Lil Wayne started to take over the rap game. Nobody liked how Eminem was doing it better than any black man or woman had done in a genre of music that was considered “black music”. With all these newer sounding rappers, the 2010s rolled around and rap started being heavily pop affiliated. There was less of the traditional sounds of rap music and a newer beat type in the game. People like Drake dominated the decade and made many hits while also giving rise to many abominations of rap music like Lil Pump who just completely missed the point of raps roots.
This process and change of rap made tons of people undermine the real meaning of raps roots. People were just claiming they were hood and put themselves into gangs to seem hard. All it’s done is have the opposite effect from the founders that wanted to get out of the hard times. They now try to glorify gang rap with fakies making awful music and now it’s few and far between where you find a rapper who’s true to their own motives and beliefs.
