Being possibly one of the most influential albums of the modern day, blonde by Frank Ocean is many many things. And those things are anything but average. Blonde was released four years after Frank Ocean became publicly open about his sexuality and claimed that he is bisexual. This album was used in purpose to shed some light on his struggles, and questioning of his childhood, masculinity, and trials as a human in general. This helped him create one of the most moving and influential albums of all time with lyrics that clearly have much thought behind them.
Compared to other albums, Blonde does something that I personally, and many others, enjoy to hear in music. That thing is relatedness. A very common connection that can be drawn to one’s music taste is the relatedness it holds. Someone who has had many trials and heartbreak in their life will more deeply understand lyrics that have similar meanings. I think blonde shows a lot of imperfection and trials in peoples lives and helps to cope with them. Each song tells a story or shares a theme or meaning that when looked at can hold value in almost anybody’s life. With lyrics such as “there will be mountains, you won’t move”, Frank touches on the reality of life and helps to point out. That stuff will always happen and there’s not much we can do about it.
Overall blonde is a very influential album that connects the masculinity and hardness of rap and R&B and connects it with emotion. Not many artists in this genre can create such a popular and reputable album and that’s why Frank Ocean is deemed as skillful as he is. Blonde will go down for one of the best albums in my opinion and if you already haven’t, I suggest sitting down and listening to it and it’s beautiful lyrics.
