Joji

Sitting at one of my top three of all time, Joji is a masterful artist with many talents. Having a voice native to Japan and using the English language with alternative music aimed at appealing to main stream indie rock in the US, his music is a big hit among those who know of him. What happens to be even better than his music, is his upbringing.

Starting out as an avid YouTuber under the alias Filthy Frank, Joji gained a growing Fanbase of mentally unstable people. Filthy Frank’s videos reflected that mindset with many pranks, skits, and jokes. Even though Joji was growing a solid Fanbase, he wasn’t quite doing what he wanted, and his fans were, in fact, quite harsh. Deep down, he had a drive to play music while also making people laugh at the same time. Filthy frank came to an end with a goodbye video and not long after emerged YouTuber and Soundcloud rapper pink guy. Pink guy was two things at the same time, those two things being what his future was stuck between. Pink guy released an album on SoundCloud that eventually moved to Apple Music. Although sounding quite brutal and harsh, in some songs, a little bit of a melodic voice shone through. Eventually Joji had to pick between pleasing his occultist following or appealing to his own dreams of becoming an artist. That’s when Joji was created.

Pink guy became eradicated and Joji began. Releasing an album in 2017, Joji grew quickly into fame. Soon signing with 88 rising records, Joji was able to gain collaborations, and eventually created, in my opinion, one of the best heartbreak albums of all time. Since then he has created two more beautiful albums, shining light on his melodic voice, and putting aside his forced humor. However, that does not stop him from the YouTuber at heart. After attending his concert this past September, he still has a funny, light hearted, child at heart attitude, while also being able to hit a wide variety of notes that could make anybody cry.
