BROCKHAMPTON is a combination of many singers, producers and assistants that create one of the most diverse boy bands to ever do it. Starting from a Twitter thread many years ago, the band was focused on being something for everybody. At the beginning, anybody could join as long as they were interested. However, the unmotivated individuals were weeded out when leader Kevin abstract declared that anyone who wanted to proceed in the band had to move to his hometown in Texas. This brought together a skilled group of seven artists and three main producers that have helped create some of the most influential music in the rap, alternative, and Pop genres.
One of the big things that BROCKHAMPTON advocates is for comfort in your differences. This is definitely a large issue today with social media and other factors, making people self-conscious and causing many other mental problems. The leader of the band, Kevin Abstract, is an African-American and gay singer coming from roots in Texas where he was bullied as a kid and not quite accepted by his parents. As a child, it didn’t take him long to realize his sexuality and he didn’t want anyone to feel how he did as a child. To combat this, a lot of music from Kevin alone and also BROCKHAMPTON speaks on accepting our differences and finding comfort in weirdness.
BROCKHAMPTON’s seven singers bring a world of differences them selves to the table. Stretching from soft melodic, guitar and piano melodies to quicker funkier, beats with more of a root from hip-hop. With these many different talents, the diversity between songs even in the same album is crazy. I think that’s what makes BROCKHAMPTON such a good band, and quite possibly one of my favorites of all time
