When talking about spreading a statement, rap does a great job at it. Rap has always been a staple of my listenings but as of recently, I shifted to a more lyrical R&B styled rap. In this kind of stuff i’ve started to notice more of a meaning behind the lyrics. Gang rap has sort of a pointless but catchy drill style with very hardcore lyrics. Contemporary Hip Hop however is more of a meaningful music. One of my favorite artists of the genre would be Tyler, The Creator. Tyler’s music is one of a very specific taste. Not everyone can just listen to a random song and find it acceptable. To become fond of his style, you have to ease in to it by listening to features and his few softer more popular songs. Underneath the cover however he is a world of a different man.
Tylers music has been extremely influential to the media by trying to stop several different stigmas. Tyler is a man against the norms of life and wants to change how people are seen. He puts a big emphasis into his music about him as a child being discriminated for being black and the hardships he went through. While showing people that he’s more than that he also is trying to not put it on the pedestal of praising anti discrimination. It’s almost a self contradicting idea but it makes sense for him to want to just be seen as everyone else.
Another thing really cool about Tyler, The Creator is his recent movements to end toxic masculinity in rap and also equalizing feminine and masculine stereotypes. In his first songs he was not at all that type of way. With super masculine empowered music you would never think he would change his mind but as time has passed, he is embracive of both sides of the gender line. That’s what I think is so cool about Tyler. He is a whirlwind of different things but very much his own person. I find that uniqueness to be super intriguing and think his style of music is super eye opening and special.
