Mainstream and Underrated

With how far music has come since its origins, there’s no doubt to say that there’s more music than one person will ever discover. Because of this so many good artists with great music and a personal touch don’t get recognized as they should. As I’ve spread out my music listening, I found that some of my favorite artists, albums, and songs are ones that nobody really knows about.

My main problem with people and their music listening is the fact of main stream. Mainstream music is basically just the average most listened to music at the moment. This is things like Drake, Beyoncé, The Beatles, Ed Sheeran, etc.. despite the fact that these are great artists, and they have great music, people don’t take the time to dive a little deeper into what the possibilities are. If you only listen to mainstream music, do you really know that much? If you only listen to mainstream music, do you really know that much?

Mainstream music poses a large problem to the music culture and the business of music production. People want to focus on where they can make the most money and be the most successful, if everybody tries to copy the main stream sound of the most popular artists, we start to lose individuality, personality, and basically everything that sets separate genres apart. i’m not specifically saying that main stream is bad because many of my favorite songs are quite basic and quite popular. The problem is when you confine your music taste to just these songs and never take the chance to fan out. many people don’t realize that there is so much music to be found. Within this music, there is always something for everybody, you just have to find it. with a little bit of music search, you might find an artist that perfectly matches your taste, or a genre that finally entails all of the music you like. All of this music is waiting out on the Internet and out in the world, but it’s up to you to search for it.

There are so many artists, albums, and songs. I would rank over any other common main stream music today. For example, one of my favorite artists is the boy band out of Corpus Christi, Texas, BROCKHAMPTON. BROCKHAMPTON holds a unique sound, connecting several different artists with three producers to create loads of music in categories of R&B, rap, contemporary, hip-hop, and a little gospel. They have a massive discography with around eight albums that hold a plethora of different music options for their listeners. Despite all their diversity present for all different groups of people, so many people still don’t know a thing about them. While I’m not telling anybody they have to like them, it’s crazy how so many people don’t know about a quite popular and talented band because all they listen to is God’s plan by Drake.
