Kevin Abstract is a modern day contemporary hip-hop/ r&b artist. Originally part of boy band “BROCKHAMPTON” Kevin was the founding artist of the band. He grew up in texas and made beginner music in school until he created this super group idea with others off of a twitter thread who quickly rose to fame in 2016-17. Kevin led the group to 9 extensive and highly differentiating albums.
The main difference Kevin has with his bigger trial in his career is his sexuality. Kevin is gay and has known and come out in his younger years of middle school. Pretty widely unacceptable at the time he battled with peoples judgment. Despite this he fought against the hate and came out on top. Now with a husband and a heavily backed music repertoire he has no shame. Plenty of his songs talk about things like how “‘not a lot of people rap and be gay” and how he is different from others and breaks the glass ceiling of gay men. He is proud of who he is and the rest of the group loves him and stands with him.
Despite all of the closeness in the BROCKHAMPTON band, they had there downfalls with Ameer Van getting booted and the eventual and recent arguments, disputes, and differentiating views of the whole group caused some problem. Kevin took it to himself to discontinue the works of the band and agreed with everybody else to break off and make their own single music. They created two mic drop albums titled- The Family- which was solely songs by Kevin about the come up of the band and a bittersweet goodbye. Twelve hours later the band released a second and previously unknown album titled -TM- which included upbeat and downbeat songs from mixes of all the band and producers that helped conclude BROCKHAMPTON’s legacy and all that Kevin created.
Kevin has many previous works under Kevin Abstract on all streaming platforms and has a firm and solid backing of personal fans. He hasn’t made much new music but could definitely create another hit album of his own any time here soon.
